Here at Barton, we are proud of the strength of our products and the great value they offer. Die Yacht magazine, one of the leading German sailing titles, has recognised this and in their recent block test the Barton Size 5 Cruiser Block came out as the overall winner!

The latest issue (July) highlights rigorous load testing with some stiff competition, including the latest offerings from Lewmar, Ronstan, Selden and Wichard. The test rig was set up to see if each manufacturer’s claims for safe working load (SWL) and break loads could be substantiated. Also included was a simulated Jibe test, tugging the blocks at near break load for a short period of time and tests for low friction under load which accounted for 40% of the overall marks.

The Barton Size 5 Block was one of only 3 out of 17 blocks that passed the test without breakage, scoring 76 points overall.

The translated article concluded: ‘The top spot is taken by the Cruiser block Size 5 which does not only achieve smooth running (even under 750 daN load, only 100daN were required to turn it) but convinces by all other quality aspects – the bolted housing for thorough cleaning, the attractive price and the moderate weight’.
