Stephan Boden has been creating quite a stir with his brilliant blog and news of his adventures around the Baltic Sea aboard his Varianta 18 ‘Digger' - equipped with Barton fittings. His blog http://diggerhamburg.wordpress.com/ was started in March 2012 and has received nearly 550.000 visitors, plus 650 followers on Facebook.
Stephan had his boat ‘Digger' on display at the recent Dϋsseldorf Boat Show. His intention is to show that fun has nothing to do with size and he wants to bring more people to sailing. People are getting older and older and for newcomers to the sport it is really hard to enter. A lot of people wrote to him, that whenever they go to boat shows, the huge new yachts are scary and way too expensive. He states: "My little boat is cheaper than a new Volkswagen Golf, but equipped with a lot of nice things and people love it. I also had a lot of people on the stand, who are thinking about downsizing."
Stephan had an article of his adventures with his girlfriend and Polly his dog printed in German sailing magazine YACHT Magazin and we bring you the full article plus Stephan's translation of the text. His story is an inspiration and his dog Polly is adorable! To read the full article, click here for English language and click here for the German language version.
He is running a competition (details will be on his blog site next spring /summer) to guess where they will sail to next, how will he do this? Well, he cuts small pieces of sausage and places them on the chart over likely ports of call, whichever piece of sausage Polly picks up, that's where they go!
‘DIGGER' will be on display again at the Magdeboot (8th -10th March) and Boatfit (22nd - 24th February) shows in Germany.
