Barton Marine supporting the W17 trimaran
In 2010, Barton Marine was invited to supply many of the fittings on the now popular W17 trimaran by Canadian designer Mike Waters. These include a 2.2m wide mainsheet track with controlling traveller tackles and cleats, blocks for 5:1 mainsheet, 4 blocks for the jib sheets, furlers for the jib and genoa, and 2 for the spinnaker sheets. Barton is pleased to support the boat hardware for sailors who enjoy this craft all over the world.
The W17 is supplied as a home-build design and we hear owner reports that this cat performs very well. She is the result of over 35 years of trimaran experience and naval architecture, offering comfort, dryness, upwind performance and wave handling making the W17 a boat of choice for many experienced sailors and those who plan to downsize in retirement.
Barton hears that nearly 200 plans have been sold in 33 countries. The design features aspects of large ocean racers but in miniature and seeks to provide a high beam to length ratio, an under-hull spade rudder (which still kicks up), low wave-making hulls, a roomy self-draining cockpit, curved akas (beams) with high wave clearance and streamlining, fully battened mainsail and an efficient rotating wingmast to assist upwind performance. Constructed with epoxied marine plywood, a renewable material with a low carbon footprint, her construction is clean and easy to maintain. She also folds to 7ft 3” beam for easy trailering.
