The majority of cruiser owners may be laid up anticipating the warm weather to come, but there is little evidence of that with dinghy owners and sailors. Very soon dinghy enthusiasts will converge again for the annual RYA Dinghy Show, staged at Alexander Palace in London on the 2nd – 3rd March.
Barton Marine once again has a stand in the Great Hall, and will be showcasing some of our new products, such as the switchable 55mm ratchet block, adding to Barton’s extensive package of fittings for dinghies. This year we have a singlehanded Solo dinghy on display, which has been fully fitted out in new Barton hardware in readiness of the new sailing season to come.
Writing this from the snowy landscape of Finland’s Helsinki Boat Show, reminds me that despite the weather, sailors are considering their upcoming needs for both winter maintenance and essential equipment upgrades. That was also the experience at the Dusseldorf Boat Show in January, which marks a big difference from last year, when the prolonged cold weather called ‘Beast from the East’ affected most of Europe and delayed the start of the season.
This year there is no evidence of seasonal delays given enquiries for new lengths of track, genoa cars and slides, stand up blocks, cam cleats, foot blocks, and such spares as springs and rubber gaiters. And…reviewing new boat equipment offers us desired distraction from the discussion of Brexit!
